Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and are gearing up for an exciting 2011.
I have received some great news, the organizers of the 55th Annual Portland Roadster Show have been receiving calls & emails from people very interested in the 2011 West Coast Movie & TV Theme Car Championships. They have made a decision to rent another hall in the Portland Expo Center, giving us a lot more space for even more cars. The organizers are realizing the potential we have to draw a lot of people to purchase tickets and come through the doors to see our cars. This is very generous of them and very exciting for us. Never before has such an event taken place. By entering in this event you are a part of history in the making. There is a book being written as sort a of memory book of this inaugural event, by being part of this event you, your car and your story will be in the book.
I am requesting that anyone who is interested in competing in this event send me their mailing address right away. Beginning January 3rd I will be sending the entry packets out. The entry deadline for the show is February 19th, but you will want to get your spot right away so don't hesitate on sending your entry form back to me. All of the Movie & TV theme cars will be parked together.
Remember this is a huge three day event, but the load in day for the cars will be on the Thursday before the show.
We will have some celebrity guests, costumed people, news media and even a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday March 18th to open the festivities of this inaugural event.
Some of the guests will include Gene Winfield. For those that don't know who Gene is, Gene Winfield has been working on cars for over 60 years, and has established himself and one of the premier customizers and car builders in the world. His ideas and painting techniques have permanently influenced the way custom cars are built today, and will be in the future.
One of Gene's most famous cars was the "Reactor". With so much public interest in his "Reactor," Winfield decided to take the car to Hollywood and show it around the various movie lots and offer the car to the studios for future shows or advertising. The car was a hit and many of the current stars had their picture taken with the car. Eventually this led to TV spots for the car in "Star Trek", "Batman", and a featured role in "Bewitched." Soon Hollywood would be calling on Winfield to build cars specifically for their shows. The AMT Dragster and "Man from U.N.C.L.E" car were born. Other Winfield creations soon appeared on TV in "The HERO", "Get Smart", and "T.H.E. Cat." The "Star Trek" shuttlecraft and the Dean Martin "Jeckle & Hyde" Camaro
Gene was asked to build some special, futuristic cars for the Woody Allen Sci-fi spoof "Sleeper." His biggest challenge came when he was asked to build 25 different hi-tech vehicles for the groundbreaking film "Blade Runner." Soon, he was providing cars for other great films like "Robocop", "The Wraith", and "The Last Starfighter", and "Back to the Future II."
Special guest will be Jeff Budnick.
Mr. Budnick is the Transportation/Picture Car coordinator for Warner Bros and works on such great shows as Supernatural and Smallville. He has built many of the cars you have seen in the movies and on TV. The Supernatural Imaplas, Scooby Doo's Mystery Machine from the live action movies and Bella's truck from the Twilight Movie series just to name a few.
Another special guest of the Cinema Classics Car Club will be Sgt. Damon Coates. Damon was a sergeant with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office in January, 2003 when he was called to assist with a distressed teen. The troubled 15 year old pulled a gun out from hiding and shot Damon in the head. Sergeant Coates spent life challenging time in critical care, slowly seeing progress while working on recovery and rehabilitation. Mr. Coates is a hero police officer who has a love for classic cars and has a few of his own, including his Purple Heart Nova which will be on display at the Portland Roadster Show. We are working on a display for this car that will be one of the best displays at the show if we can make it happen.
Don't forget also, that we will be having a couple "Best Of Show" awards made by the father & son team that build the Grammy & the Latin Grammy awards. These awards will be a very special collector's piece and will come with a certificate of authenticity. They will be a one of a kind award specially made for the 2011 West Coast Movie & TV Theme Car Championships.
That all being said, be sure to send me your mailing address so that I can get an entry packet out to you ASAP.
Thank You,
Tod Becraft
